Telescope – Lyrics

We’re trapped by time
Even if time cannot explain infinity
We’ve lost our mind
In this confusing one act play,
That seems to play the jokes on me

Looking through the Telescope
I see a younger me
I see an older you
Looking through the Telescope
Get a glimpse of what could be
If we could twist reality,
Reality

The Ghosts in my bed
Disregarding all the laws of sanity
A road trip in your head
Through some twisted German town, forbidden fantasy

Looking through the Telescope
Simple choices you can make when you believe that you are free
Looking through the Telescope
You could think you’d live forever, if forever was
Reality

Alone and wiser
Everything will fade just like desire
But words can inspire
The burning of the throne that guards morality

Looking through the Telescope
There is clarity that fades and dirty thoughts that misbehave
Looking through the Telescope
There is no middle ground, ‘cause everything keeps going round
Just like… Reality

TELESCOPE

Telescope is about time… the trickster, that plays the jokes on me.
It’s about the pro’s and con’s of hitchhiking, It’s about Leonard Cohen, It’s about the lizard king, It’s about a lot of things, It’s also about things we don’t understand… or shouldn’t
The idea of the telescope wasn’t mine originally. So thanks for the inspiration, you know who.

The Music

Let’s talk about the music rather.

The idea for the song had been around for about a year. But I wasn’t happy with the structure or melody. It was… too folky.
So I let it lie for a while and waited for the right input to drive the development.
It came form that opening chord progression which led to a slower more melancholic melody and mood.
It suited the subject matter better.

I decided to keep the sound acoustic and pushed my acoustic guitar playing as far as it would go (with the help of Pro Tools).
Yes, I played everything on this one. For better or for worse.

I like this song.
